Shiga University of Medical Science (SUMS) has selected and supported unique research projects such as medical research using monkeys, research on intractable neurological diseases, epidemiological research on non-communicable diseases, and advanced cancer research. On April 1, 2022, in order to further develop these priority researches and connect the research results to social implementation, the research centers of SUMS were integrated to form the Advanced Medical Research Organization. Furthermore, under the organization, we established the Biomedical Business Development Unit (BBDU) and the Medical Innovation Research center (MIRC), which are in charge of implementation. The MIRC brings together diverse human resources, regardless of age, gender, nationality, and promotes basic research that is purely intellectually curiosity from a long-term perspective. The Challenging Research Division provides young researchers with an independent research environment for the purpose of fostering next-generation priority research and young researchers. In the International Collaborative Research Division, we have invited Professor Wan Zurinah Wan Nagh from the National University of Malaysia, an overseas partner institution, as a specially appointed professor. In addition to promoting international joint research on aging, we aim to establish a joint or double degree program with the National University of Malaysia in 2024, the 50th anniversary of SUMS.
